La Maison is a cosy bakery in Berlin that attaches great importance to good quality and genuine products. The client invited us to take part in a pitch together with three other architecture firms to design the new shop in the vibrant Neukölln neighbourhood.
The programme was quite extensive: it was not just about creating a new bakery, but also about presenting a wide range of pastries, hot dishes, sandwiches and a selection of drinks. The idea was to create a truly French bakery and patisserie and to focus on a more dynamic and fluid experience.
Our proposal is inspired by the unique charm of the original shop in Kreuzberg. Products are presented in a window display and transactions are made through a take-away service window. We utilised the abundance of natural light coming in through the windows and designed a system of triple counters that is perfect for product display as well as being practical.
Inside, we designed a central core that serves as an independent area. This is where the kitchen, fridges and a large communal table are located. This allows us to organise the shop more efficiently while encouraging interaction between customers and staff. This creates a welcoming experience for all visitors.
